Rockstar North announced a new GTA Online patch coming September 15th, in which there will be Free Mode Events and Challenges. These challenges provide some new life and dynamics for the free mode in which a large majority of players spend their time. Now, rather than only having the option of playlist activities when you’re bored with Free Mode, you can resort to these challenges without jumping out of the Free Mode lobby.
IGN spoke to Rockstar North about the future of GTA Online in an article which also outlined some of the update’s features as well as ideas for future patches. This is the first patch where the PS3 and XBOX360 versions of the game will be left behind, and though it may be a bit of a disappointment for some gamers, it’s quite an exciting opportunity for the players of the current gen versions.
The fact is, PS4, XBOXONE and PC have more power than the previous gen of consoles, so Rockstar North is allowed far more breathing room and possibility for creative innovations within GTA Online. It’s arleady shaped itself to be one of the best multiplayer gaming experiences available and it’s showing no signs of stopping, especially with the 8 millions users that sign on per week. Yes, per week. That’s an insane number, and Rockstar North said that GTA Online has exceeded their expectations in measures of success and clearly stated that they will continue to release free updates as long as people are still playing. So, what that means for us is a lot of awesome new content for an already impressive mode. Could we see new areas, like what were hinted toward before the game released? Many people have wondered if GTA Online will actually expand into other cities, states or even countries, since some of the developers had mentioned a while back how ambitious their initial vision for the project was. Now after shedding the limitations of older hardware, are these ambitions closer to reality? We will just have to wait and see.
Until then, we can enjoy Heists, the new Free Mode events and maybe some customization for our personal apartments in the near future.
